What to see & do :

GUIDED TOURS

Here in Canelos you can do the following tours and we can organize some others on your wish on our possibilities, like a night walk to see insects and frogs

Rainforest tour (tours in Spanish + English recorded translation on Cell phone for the Explanations) Cost 30 USD (Cost for group max 6 pers.)

This guided walk into the rainforest of about three hours is quite an experience. A native guide will explain the medicinal properties of plants and trees and talk about insects and ancient customs. We will visit an ancient tree which requires several people to embrace him, the guide will explain about plants, herbs and medicinal trees
Duration approximately 3 to 4 hours

Visit to the community (Tour in English, Spanish, German or French) Cost 25 USD (Cost for group max 6 pers.)

From Huelle Verde you will enjoying a short tour of secondary forest for a visit to the indigenous community of Canelos Here we will visit a Quichua family, it will show us his old ancestral customs abouthow they live, of their traditional ceramics. After that we will visit the viewpoint of the Catholic mission where we can see the landscape that offers the community of Canelos, during a clear day you can see the ridge of the mountain and then we will return to the Lodge.

Cacao Trail (Tour in English, spanish, French or German) Cost 7 USD per person including Hot chocolate

On Cacao Tour we will guide you through each one of the steps necessary to make quality cacao. It starts with the sowing, where you can sow your own cacao plant, and continue learning about the harvest, cutting and extraction of the grains in a cacao pod. Continue with the post-harvest process: fermentation and drying, which are determining factors in the quality of the chocolate. Learn about the Ecuadorean ecosystem and what allows it to have the perfect conditions for growing fine cacao which evolves into the best quality chocolates. Back to Huella Verde we will prepair a nice hot Chocolate from Huella Verde's Cacao.
This tour will take around 40 minutes.

The sandy beach invites you to sunbathe and enjoy the BobonazaRiver water for a refreshing swim, relax and enjoy the late afternoon.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM PUYO.
From Puyo, you will need to take a Taxi to go from the main bus terminal to the local Bus Terminal Centinela del Oriente Bus company. This will cost you 1 USD.

The are 5 Buses to Canelos per day, 6h00 9h30 12.h30 14.30 16h30. The trip from Puyo to Canelos will take you around 1 hour. (USD 1.60)

Taxi service Puyo – Canelos around USD 25.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM BANOS OR QUITO
From Banos or Quito Quitumbe Bus Terminal (located in the south of the city) you can take a Bus directly to Puyo USD 5,00. The trip will take you around 1 hour from Banos and 5 hours from Quito to join the city of Puyo.

PRIVATE TRANSPORT FROM QUITO-PUYO

You will have 2 choices with beautiful different landscapes :

Choice 1 : drive through the Cotopaxi national Park, Latacunga, Ambato, Banos, Puyo, around 4 hours.

Choice 2 : drive through Papapllacta, Baeza, Tena, Puyo around 5 hours.

Once you are in Puyo you need to take the main road to Macas, after 26km you will see a direction panel indicating at you left the road to Canelos. Take left and continue for around 16km down the valley until you arrive at the bus station of Canelos (soccer field), place where you will be picked up to join Huella Verde. The trip Puyo – Canelos will take you 45 minutes more.

Parking : 1km from the Lodge. In this parking we leave our own Car and you can park yours next to our. As it’s an Indigenous community the place is safe.

Please note that we can organise private transportation from Quito, cost is approximatively 160 to 180 USD
